Route Overview

Land & Lake is our most considered 14-day route. It moves at the right speed, gives Liwonde the time it deserves and treats Likoma as a destination rather than an add-on.

Route Spine

  1. 01

    Lilongwe

    Days 1–2

    Ad Lib Executive Lodge

Arrival and city orientation. Lilongwe Wildlife Centre, markets, local context. Recovery time for the international leg.

Malawi begins in Lilongwe. Two nights gives enough time to orient without wasting the route.

  2. 02

    Ntchisi

    Days 3–4

    The Commonage

Highland forest, coffee estate, cooler air. A deliberate pace change out of the capital.

Ntchisi is where the itinerary begins to breathe. The altitude change is noticeable and welcome.

  3. 03

    Dedza

    Day 5

    Dedza Pottery Lodge

Pottery visit, mountain stop, cultural craft tradition. A half-day route break between regions.

Dedza is a road stop that earns its night. The pottery is one of the few genuine craft destinations in Malawi.

  4. 04

    Liwonde

    Days 6–8

    Liwonde Safari Camp

Three nights for safari. Shire River, game drives, two boat safaris at dawn, village surroundings.

Three nights here rather than the standard one. Liwonde needs time — the river reveals itself slowly.

  5. 05

    Likoma Island

    Days 9–13

    Mango Drift

Five nights of lake recovery. Kayaking, diving and snorkelling, cathedral visit, island time.

Five nights on Likoma is what the island requires to be experienced as a place rather than a checkpoint.

  6. 06

    Return buffer — Lilongwe

    Day 14

    Confirmed on logistics

One night before the international departure. Protects the flight.

Likoma island logistics can be fragile. This buffer exists because missing an international departure from a remote island is not a theoretical risk.

Why This Route Works

  • 01

It gives Liwonde three nights rather than the standard one — enough time for two boat safaris and for the river to reveal itself.

  • 02

Likoma Island receives five nights, which is what the island requires to feel like a place rather than a photograph.

  • 03

The Dedza stop earns its night. The pottery is one of the most genuine craft experiences in Malawi.

  • 04

The return buffer on day 14 protects the international departure. Island logistics can be fragile.

  • 05

The route avoids making Malawi a checklist. The pace is built around how places actually work, not around filling a calendar.

Common Questions

What is a NYASA Journey?
A curated, complete Malawi route — selected stays, transport between regions, safari and lake time — with transparent pricing built from verified local costs. You can start booking one today; NYASA confirms availability, route fit and final pricing before any final payment.
Is a NYASA Journey a package holiday?
No. These are curated routes you can shape (comfort level, transport, safari and meals), personally confirmed by NYASA rather than mass-produced. There are no fixed departure dates, no seat limits and no off-the-shelf coach tours.
Is the price I see final?
The price shown is an honest, indicative ‘from’ per person based on stated assumptions and verified cost anchors. Your exact, current price is confirmed for your dates and choices before you pay anything.
Are international flights included?
No. International flights are not included unless arranged separately. Journey prices cover the in-country route, stays and transport as described.
Is my booking instantly confirmed?
Your request is confirmed immediately, but that is not a final booking. NYASA then confirms availability and current pricing with each operator and sends a final itinerary before any final payment is taken.
Can I customise a journey?
Yes. Each journey offers comfort levels (Essential, Comfortable, Signature) and choices for transport, safari and meals. If you want something more bespoke, NYASA can quote a custom route.
